Vision 10X/Mission 10X: Transforming healthcare through Stay Left, Shift Left 10X paradigm and Health-Living-Labs based on Open Innovation 2.0
Abstract
Background: Healthcare systems worldwide are under increasing pressure due to a multitude of compounding issues including aging populations, chronic diseases, staff shortages, and financial constraints. Incremental reforms are no longer sufficient to meet these challenges. Vision10X and Mission 10X, founded on Professor Martin Curley's “Stay Left, Shift Left, 10X” paradigm, are two massive transformative purpose (MTP) moonshot initiatives making healthcare systems ten times better, faster, safer, more accessible, and more cost-effective through the use of digital technologies, open innovation and a proactive health mindset Vision10X is a strategic moonshot concept to cocreate a new health system, which is 10X better than our existing health systems and Mission10X is a strategic initiative to bring 10X digital solutions to existing health systems.
The approach utilizes Health Living Labs based on the principles of Open Innovation 2.0 (OI2) and in which patients, physicians, policymakers, scientists, and industry representatives work together. These Living Labs serve as real-world environments for joint development, experimentation, and continuous iteration, translating digital health innovations into measurable 10x outcomes.
Audience: This workshop is designed for:
Healthcare leaders, policymakers, and system innovators aiming to reimagine and redesign service delivery around prevention and digital care.
Clinicians, researchers, and technologists engaged in digital health innovation and evaluation.
Industry partners and start-ups seeking frameworks for scaling validated health technologies.
Patient advocates and community organizations interested in participatory design and coproducing health.
Participants will collectively explore how to operationalize Vision10X, Mission 10X and Living Lab models in their own health systems
Approach: Duration: 90 or 60 minutes | Format: Roundtable and breakout format and interactive
TimeSegmentDescription
0–10 min - SLSL10X - Overview of Mission 10X & Vision 10X.
10–25 min - Case Insights - Examples from Ireland’s Health Living Labs: early discharge, digital home monitoring, AI triage. / Patient education apps
25–60 min - Interactive Co-Creation - Participants in mixed groups (policy, clinical, industry, patient)
use the Vision and Mission 10X Canvas’s to design a 10X improvement initiative using OI2 principles with patient involvement central.
60–80 min - Group Presentations - Teams share their prototypes and success metrics (using the quintuple aim (care outcomes, value/cost. Patient experience, Clinician experience/productivity and sustainability).- Panel
80–90 min - Reflection & Next Steps - Synthesis, mapping international collaboration and scaling opportunities.
Tools: Vision10X and Mission 10X Value Canvas, HLL Co-Design Template, and Digital Transformation Maturity Map.
Outcomes: Participants will:
Understand how Vision10X/Mission 10X and Health Living Labs can deliver 10X improvements using technology and innovation.
Apply OI2 methods for co-design, validation, and scaling of health interventions.
Co-create draft models for digital prevention, community-based care, and rapid discharge pathways.
Build cross-sector partnerships and identify measurable 10X metrics for post-conference pilots.
