Abstract

I propose the creation of a sensory room right here on our college campus. This innovative initiative seeks to address the diverse sensory needs and daily stresses of our student body, faculty, and staff. Through my research, I've observed a growing awareness of neurodiversity and the importance of accommodating individuals with sensory processing differences. By establishing a sensory room, we can provide a dedicated space for relaxation, stress reduction, and sensory regulation. Equipped with comfortable seating, calming ambiance, and various sensory tools, the room will cater to a wide range of sensory preferences. Furthermore, this proposal aligns with current trends in educational psychology, highlighting the positive impact of sensory-friendly environments on academic performance and overall well-being. The proposed sensory room will provide a safe space to unwind and recharge, perhaps a cozy corner filled with soft cushions, comfy furniture, calming colors, gentle sounds, and various resources and activites, all designed to help students relax and de-stress. Whether they’re feeling overwhelmed by exams, struggling with sensory sensitivities, or simply need a break from the hustle and bustle, the sensory room will be there for them. It'll be a place where we can escape the chaos of daily life, take a deep breath, and reset our minds. I am currently working with Student Government and hopefully we can have a sensory room in the next year or two.
