Investigating Thieno[3,4-c]furan-4,6-dione (TFD) as a substitute for Thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole4,6-dione (TPD) in Direct Arylation Polycondensation Reactions for Optoelectronic Applications
Abstract
Organic semiconductors are essential for technologies like organic photovoltaics (OPVs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), and organic field eƯect transistors (OFETs). This study explores Thieno[3,4-c]furan-4,6-dione (TFD) as an alternative base monomer to the widely studied Thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD), focusing on its potential to enhance electron-withdrawing properties and improve optoelectronic performance. TFD-based polymers, with a variety of other aryl dibrominated comonomers, will be synthesized via direct arylation polycondensation (DArP) and compared to TPD analogs previously reported in literature. Products will be characterized using 1HNMR, FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and fluorimetry. Variations in the aryl dibromide compounds is expected to allow for tuning of optoeletronic properties, thereby accessing potential candidates for further applications. This research contributes to the sustainable and accessible synthesis of high-performance π-conjugated polymers, with broader implications for organic electronics.
