Abstract
After the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has found itself thrust into pariah status within the international system. With that status has come unprecedented political and especially, economic sanctions. As Russia figures out how to maneuver within the global economy and its institutions with these sanctions and pariah status, I have looked to examples of other international pariahs and specifically how they navigate (or fail to navigate) inside and outside global economic governance institutions. This research provides some context to what we could expect from Russia in the coming years and the fate of global economic governance in an increasingly multipolar international system.
