Abstract

Taking the recent example of Canada attempting to re-introduce Native American languages, the present research extends this possibility to other countries whose populations are currently speaking a non-native tongue. Using findings from recent DNA studies of Colonial-era populations in Quebec, the United States, and historic Wales and Scotland, the proposal is made that because these residents were originally of Jewish descent they should, therefore, be speaking Hebrew. This proposal is interwoven with a review of the founding of the State of Israel in which in-migrating Jews from a variety of former nationalities were required to adopt Hebrew as their Mother Tongue.
