ASSESSMENT OF THE LEVEL OF HUMAN SECURITY IN ILORIN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA

Human security simply means the security of people and the community. It forms an important part of people’s well-being and is extremely interconnected with development. This paper assessed the level of human security in Ilorin. Primary data were used in the study. The primary data were sourced through a structured questionnaire coupled with personal interviews. Three hundred and eighty-four (384) questionnaires were administered using the Kobocollectv1.14.0a software package which is based on the OpenDataKit. Data collected were analyzed using mean and percentages. The study revealed that most sampled respondents have access to food and healthcare facilities. This implies that they are secure regarding access to food and fundamental human rights. However, most respondents do not have access to water and cannot afford quality healthcare services. On average income, most of the respondents are low-income earners. The average income of the people cannot be enough for them to be economically secure. People find it difficult to satisfy their basic needs from their income. Given this, the study, therefore, recommends that the government should be more committed to the provision of the basic needs of life, infrastructural development, and the task of improving the socioeconomic well-being of the people, Government policies should be centered on improving human security.
