Aims and scope

Studia Geotechnica et Mechanica is an international journal covering new developments in geotechnical engineering, geomechanics, structural mechanics, and the mechanics of civil engineering materials and infrastructure. The journal welcomes original theoretical, numerical, and experimental contributions. The following topics are of particular interest:

  • Constitutive modelling and mechanical characterization of geomaterials and civil engineering materials, including soils, rocks, concrete, and composite materials
  • Modelling of the mechanical behaviour of heterogeneous materials at different scales
  • Analysis of coupled thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical problems in porous and heterogeneous media
  • Modelling of instabilities and localized deformation, damage, and failure of materials and structures
  • Experimental investigations of material properties at different scales, including laboratory testing, in situ testing, and non-destructive testing
  • Site characterization, identification of geotechnical parameters, and geotechnical monitoring
  • Numerical algorithms, computational methods, inverse analysis, optimization, and data-driven modelling
  • Analysis of foundations, underground structures, excavations, retaining structures, and soil–structure interaction
  • Ground improvement, soil stabilization and reinforcement, and applications of geosynthetics
  • Analysis of slopes, embankments, dams, and other earth structures, including seepage and erosion processes
  • Rock mechanics, mining geomechanics, and the mechanical behaviour of underground excavations and structures
  • Transportation geotechnics and the mechanics of transportation infrastructure, including road and railway earthworks, pavements, and soil–steel structures
  • Analysis of concrete, masonry, steel, and composite structures, including buildings, bridges, and other civil engineering structures
  • Structural dynamics, vibrations, stability, and the response of structures and foundations to dynamic and seismic loading
  • Investigation and assessment of the mechanical behaviour and performance of existing and proposed civil engineering structures, including experimental testing and monitoring
  • Spatial variability, uncertainty quantification, probabilistic modelling, and risk and reliability analysis
