The Impact of the Geopolitical Situation on Inflation in the Current Period

In a global context marked by conflict and instability, the subject of the impact of war on the economy and, in particular, on inflation, becomes one of major importance. The present work aims to analyze in detail the economic effects generated by contemporary conflicts, with a particular focus on the war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the effects generated by the COVID-19 Pandemic and their implications on inflation in Romania. The analyzed period, 2005-2023, is crucial for understanding the evolution of inflation in Romania, including the economic transformations and periods of instability that marked this period. The objective of this study is to determine and examine the geopolitical, geoeconomic and geostrategic peculiarities and progress of the European region, in the context of the unfolding of internal and external crises. This scientific research is based on two fundamental hypotheses: the first states that there are geoeconomic considerations behind geopolitical changes, and the second argues that the particularity of the crises facing Europe requires the creation of new common instruments and mechanisms for preventing and combating risks, as well as military and non-military threats.
