Since the end of the Cold War, the Sino-Russian alignment has gradually evolved from good neighbourly relations to an increasingly close strategic partnership, based primarily on their shared perception of US hegemony as a threat. While Russia initially sought connections with the West following the collapse of the Soviet Union, it increasingly turned eastward as its influence was constrained. China, in turn, began to view Russia as a potential strategic partner, particularly in the context of (global) great power competition. This article analyses military cooperation between China and Russia in three periods since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, as it represents an important indicator of Sino-Russian relations. In doing this, we aim to assess whether this cooperation is moving towards the establishment of a long-term strategic alliance based on the strategic interests of the two states, or whether it is merely short-term pragmatic cooperation driven by the pursuit of immediate benefits.

Energy infrastructure is increasingly being targeted by cyberattacks, and this trend is expected to continue due to the infrastructure's critical role in national security. This research combines a systematic literature review, theoretical analysis and comparative case study analysis in which prominent real-world incidents (Stuxnet, Triton/Trisis, the Ukraine blackouts, and the Colonial Pipeline attack) were analysed from the forensics perspective, as a methodology framework. This study focuses on integrating digital forensics as a proactively used tool into the strategic defence and protection model for critical energy infrastructure. An additional focus of the study is on the concrete barriers to fully incorporating digital forensics into energy infrastructure.

The study includes a review of best practices in information technology service management and information technology governance, legal frameworks, user interviews, and incident data from 2022–2024. We conclude that the multi-level support model—service center, local and technical support—works effectively and successfully resolves all reported incidents. Users highlight professionalism and quick responses, as well as the need for digitization of procedures, a self-help portal, and better cooperation between support levels. We suggest introducing automation, proactive incident monitoring, and continuous staff training to increase the reliability of the CIS.

This research examines the role of major technology corporations in shaping cyber resilience during significant cyber incidents in the Balkans in 2022. This study conducts a comparative analysis of eight Balkan nations (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia), focusing on the forms and drivers of Big Tech engagement. The findings identify three patterns: comprehensive operational involvement; limited and delayed engagement; and minimal or no involvement. Interacting factors, including geopolitical alignment, attribution clarity, incident visibility, and institutional preparedness, shape these differences. The research develops a multi-level explanatory framework and conceptualises Big Tech as quasi-sovereign actors whose engagement is selective and context-dependent, with implications for cyber resilience and digital sovereignty in smaller states.

It analyzes networked communication, signal support, cybersecurity, and the integration of joint and multinational forces, with particular focus on electromagnetic spectrum congestion, cyber threats, and secure transmission in contested environments. The results highlight its distinct non-interchangeability with broader models such as Strategic Communications (StratCom) and Internet of Battlefield Things (IoBT), ensuring operational resilience, enhancing effectiveness, and offering adaptability to future innovations, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum encryption, and advanced satellite systems.

CRYSTALS-Dilithium is a post-quantum digital signature algorithm valued for its security, efficiency, and resistance to quantum attacks. This study evaluates its performance in execution time, CPU, and RAM usage across different message sizes, security levels (Dilithium-2, 3, 5), and pre-hashing. The results show linear scaling with message size, modest overhead at higher levels, and major speed gains when pre-hashing large files. Dilithium-2 provides optimal efficiency, while Dilithium-5 delivers stronger protection with practical performance. Beyond civilian use, Dilithium is well-suited for military systems, enabling secure communications, long-term confidentiality of classified data, and NATO interoperability, even in constrained environments such as tactical radios, drones, and field IoT devices.

Prior work has demonstrated that incorporating well-known quantum-physical tunnelling probability into artificial neural network models effectively captures important nuances of human cognition and perception, particularly in the recognition of ambiguous objects and sentiment analysis. In this paper, we employ novel tunnelling-based artificial neural networks and assess their effectiveness in distinguishing customised images of military and civilian vehicles, as well as sentiment, using a proprietary military-specific vocabulary. We show that quantum tunnelling neural networks can enhance multimodal AI applications in battlefield scenarios, particularly within human-operated drone warfare contexts, imbuing AI with certain traits of human reasoning.

The increasing autonomy of UAVs raises profound ethical and legal dilemmas about entrusting life-and-death decisions to machines.
This article conceptualizes an ecology of everyday violence within Russian state-aligned Telegram channels during the first six months of the invasion of Ukraine. Through qualitative analysis of propaganda posts about Bucha, Irpin, and Mariupol, it shows how denial, euphemism, and moral justification normalize harm while heroic and redemptive framings render violence virtuous. Rather than relying on explicit exterminationism, the state’s digital discourse embeds militarized values in ordinary communication. Telegram’s networked architecture absorbs the ‘flashbulb’ shock of mediatized content about sites of atrocities, collapsing boundaries between soldier and civilian, front and rear, and time and space to produce a communicative environment in which violence becomes routine, integral, and heroic within broader processes of everyday militarization in Russia under the Putin regime.

Drawing on survey data from a representative sample of the civilian population and a sample of SAF service members, the analysis explores demographic factors, including age and gender distribution, regional representation, ideological position, marital status, religious affiliation, voting patterns, and perceived social status. The findings indicate that SAF service members tend to be somewhat more right-leaning than the broader populace, with officers exhibiting relatively centrist orientations. Regional imbalances also highlight over-representation of certain areas and under-representation of others.

It follows a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with subject matter experts from law enforcement, migration, and the defence industry, primarily based in Türkiye. It uncovers how survivorship bias can cause misleading border security performance metrics. The study also shows that survivorship bias can lead to the underestimation of border security risks, faulty resource allocation, neglect of adaptive tactics, and distorted public perception. The study proposes a border security event evaluation framework, integrating both successful and unsuccessful cases.

The paper looks at the specifics of the relative distribution of power, primarily based on maritime and air assets. Based on this examination, it concludes that, while the current distribution of power does not show a clear disadvantage for Japan, trends in recent years suggest a negative shift for Japan which represents a significant concern, as Japan’s power advantage has been significantly eroded. These trends create a major insecurity for Japan and undermine regional security, as shown in the second half of the paper.
